Looking Back on Igloofest's 10th Anniversary

Peter Ryaux-Larsen

Including a record opening weekend that drew almost 25,000 people to celebrate the launch of its 10th edition, Igloofest attracted 79,000 playful dancers this year, or 5,000 more than last year's edition, which had broken the record for coldest year. All these people (you should have seen the costumes!) discovered a completely redesigned site for the occasion, where even the most loyal regulars had the pleasure of experiencing a whole new Igloofest. Open toward the beautiful panorama of Old Montreal, the new main stage and dance floor certainly delivered magical memories for all those who put their hearts into these 12 crazy nights at Igloofest 2016.

It must be said that in terms of "sound and light", there was something for all tastes and so much for the eyes to marvel at. Igloofest salutes and thanks, with all its heart, the 74 musical artists and 25 visual artists who made 2016 the most beautiful program in its history, nothing less! And of course, the party would not even be possible without the irreducible Igloofest team of more than 650 employees across the duration of the event, of which nearly 300 were on the grounds every night. Hats off and thanks to these essential and brave faces that are always smiling.

2017 goals and festivities for Montreal's 375th anniversary
Organized at the Igloofest site gates at Place Jacques-Cartier, in collaboration with Sapin MTL, the first Pan-American Tress Toss Contest was an instant success that immediately earned its position as a tradition to pursue. For Pascal Lefebvre, President of Igloofest, this is only the beginning: "This friendly and wacky competition is only a preview of the many crazy Igloofest activities already being prepared for the special 2017 edition that will transform the Jacques-Cartier Quay into a destination where families and friends will be invited to participate joyfully in the festivities of the 375th anniversary of the city." More to come soon!

Do you want more? Igloofest is in Quebec City this Saturday, February 13th
Before shutting down this anniversary edition for good, Igloofest is offering up one last dance for those who want more. This Saturday, February 13th, Igloofest will make its first visit to Quebec as part of the official Jamboree 2016 party. Just after the finals of the Big Air's FIS World Cup as part of the Carnival night, spectators will get to celebrate under the stars with the formula that made Igloofest such a success: electronic music, video projections and explosive lighting expertly combined for a magical evening! It's a date!

The best dance partners
It's a well-known fact that a dance becomes a charm when you have the right partner. And for its 10th anniversary, Igloofest had the best partners around, starting with the Old Port of Montreal, with whom this crazy idea was born 10 years ago. Special shout outs go to our friends at Sapporo, general presenters of the event for the fifth consecutive year. A dazzling bow to our general collaborator Solotech, whose incomparable technical expertise makes it all possible. A warm thanks to the presenters for every weekend: STM, V Télé, Jägermeister, and Videotron Mobile. Heartfelt accolades to our major partners Boris Cool, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, SAQ and Red Bull. Similarly, we can't punctuate enough the valuable contribution of key institutional partners Tourism Québec, Tourism Montreal, SRM via the Opportunities and Promotion Fund for the Metropolis, Musicaction, the City of Montreal and the SDC Vieux-Montréal. Finally, a huge thank you to supporting partners Landr, W - Official Hotel of our artists, Stage Line, Simplex, MOOG Audio, Mega-Stage, Zone Festival, Mystique Cider, White Face, Café Cubita, Eska, Écorce, QuatreCentQuatre, Anfibio, Moose Knuckles, Iceberg Vodka and Sunwing Vacations; our media partners Virgin Radio, Nightlife.ca, Ton Barbier, CISM, Exclaim!, UB Media, Resident Advisor, XLR8R, THUMP, BEATPORT; our tourism partners Happening Gourmand, Le Petit Hotel, Hotel Zero 1, Hostel HI-Montreal, Via Rail and Amigo Express, and to event partners Osheaga and MUTEK.

Thank you once again to all visitors and our talented artists, who have immortalized this 10th edition of Igloofest by coming ready to play. See you next on May 22 and 23 for the official opening of Piknic Electronik 2016.
