Taal Mala CA 18:30
Taal Mala

Often described as un-categorizable, Taal Mala’s music is inspired by new ideas and classic standards, and takes influence from a diverse selection of both new and classic sounds. Genre-defying acts of synth genius and production lustre form a solid foundation for Taal Mala’s destruction of any soundboy who comes to test it. Dubstep, Grime, Jungle, Acid, Hardcore and Reggae are all partially responsible for the fusion that is created. As a member of the Lighta! and Dark Magnet soundsystems, Taal Mala has buried an excess of tin pan soundboys alongside The Bug, Kode9, Loefah, Venetian Snares, Rusko, Benga, Mala, Skream, and many more.

10 kilos is the weight of one million American dollars. It’s in French. It’s the conviction that young people always have a point, and that it’s a given that as long as the future is theirs to grasp, we’re in good hands. It’s the binary incarnation of what’s most listened to on the streets of Zone 6, the stripculbs of Alabama, the schoolyards of Chicago, and the afterhours of Shoreditch.

Tommy Kruise is to ignorant rap what Eric Lapointe is to mainstream Quebecois rock. A regular figure on the 10Kilos.us and Mook-Life.com sites, this first-class talent has memorized the entire Three 6 Mafia and DJ Screw catalogues by heart, to the point that he could recite anything for those vaults, any time, in any state. Adept at bass as fatty as Poulet Rocky chicken breast, he’s easily better known in Montreal as the Lex Luger of St. Henri.

FunkyFalz

Assuredly born a viking in a previous life, the experience of this Quebecois dancefloor artisan is to direct great big slaps of eclectic beats. Eschewing all labels, his musical bulemia tastes as good as it is good for you, like hiding brocoli in a grilled cheese and bacon. As accessible as he improvisable, he mixes his mind for liquored future-rap with modern elctropical house, resulting in a stimulating slap in the face.

The Gulf Stream CA 18:30
The Gulf Stream

Montreal duo The Gulf Stream takes hip-hop templates and feeds them into the hungry mouth of international bass music. Composed of Kodok (Ivann Uruena) and Archibald Singleton (Jérôme Guilleaume), when they first geared up to jam the pair were a ways off from knowing that they would have such fun playing together. As they grew musically, they forged their sound around a mid-tempo hip-hop, full of subtle samples, melodic synths and powerful basses. Anything goes when it comes to samples. The live set they play is always evolving, full of glitches and as they never stopped jamming, new compositions keep emerging each time they play.

Oneman

Though Oneman (aka Streatham’s Steve Bishop) may have started turning heads by melding old-school UK garage with DMZ-style dubstep, he’s proven through his FABRICLIVE 64 and Rinse 15 compilations that he can do so much more than just marry classics with current beats. With hip-hop and R&B sets for The Boiler Room, back-to -back sets with Jackmaster, and opening sets for SBTRKT and Major Lazer, Oneman has that rare ability to destroy any party.

Pulses

Pulses in a Montreal duo who prefer to keep their identities on the anonymous and the live techno productions enigmatically dark and brooding. Having performed one of their firs-ever live shows at Piknic’s GURU stage last September, the pair returns to Igloofest to brave the Quay Jacques-Cartier winter winds. Minimalist structures, subtle melodies, hypnotics trails, and the right touch of retro-futurism makes Pulses a duo to watch.
